In late May, 6 out of 34 architect teams were chosen to participate in the project competition to create a new heritage zone at Nyborg Castle. Now the big job begins, when the participants have to delve into the history of the town of Nyborg and its castle, the castle’s architecture and just as importantly, the visions for the heritage of Nyborg going forward.

The competition involving Nyborg Castle is complex and covers many varied partial elements: adding new buildings onto the old, exhibition space construction, restoration work, landscape architecture, the creation of a town space that includes the castle, and a bridge connector. All of this is described minutely in the competition program, which can be downloaded in both Danish and English from SLKE - The Agency for Palaces and Cultural Properties - website, by anyone interested in the project in Nyborg.

The program is 85 pages long and written by: SLKE, The Museums of Eastern Funen, the Municipality of Nyborg, E+N Architecture, Jens Bertelsen, the Royal Building Inspector and Arkitektkonkurrencer.dk (Architectural Competitions.dk)

In 2015, the international architects’ competition will be carried out in two phases. The competition will concretise the overall plan for the castle and the castle area. The actual building project is expected to be complete in the course of 2019.
