E+N Architects behind architectural competition

Since 2009, archaeologists have been excavating the castle yard in Nyborg. The results of these archaeological investigations will be used as knowledge and background for the architectural competition which will be launched this fall. It is a very important step on the way to renovating and expanding Nyborg Castle as a major research and teaching centre. This is an even more important step on the way to admission to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Aarhus architect firm, E+N Architecture (formerly Exner's Drawing Office A/S), has been given the task of preparing the introductory presentation which will form the basis for the architectural competition. E+N Architecture has long experience with restoring and expanding historic and protected buildings. The company was behind the rebuilding of the ruins of Kolding Hus (now a splendid museum), which has many points of reference to the project at Nyborg Castle. They also designed the reception building at Spøttrup Castle and the conversion of the stables at Hindsgavl Castle for use as hotel rooms.

The firm of architects has already held meetings with people from the involved agencies: the Museums of Eastern Funen, the Danish Agency for Culture, the Agency for Palaces and Cultural Properties, the Municipality of Nyborg, and representatives from two foundations - Realdania and A.P. Møller and Mrs. Chastine McKinney Møller's Fund for General Purposes. All parties have discussed ideas, exchanged points of view and of course looked at the physical conditions involved.

E+N Architecture will deliver their introductory presentation this summer, and the architectural competition will take place in the autumn, if all goes according to plan.
